They love the game , they know the moves but their knowledge of its history is as vague as ignorance.
But from where do we pinpoint the origin of chess?
Is it from China, India or even Persia?
According to facts the chess game as we know it has factually been around for more than 1500 years when it was spread by the Muslim dominated Persia to Europe.
According to historians.
Early versions of chess had its origin in India during the Gupta Empire where it was formerly known as chatura ga, meaning “four divisions (of the military)” comprising the infantry, cavalry , elephantry, and chariotry.
Divisions that would later be known as pawn, knight, bishop, and rook in modern chess.
According to historical writings, it’s earliest beginnings is traceable back to the Kushan Empire in Ancient Afghanistan , circa 50 BCE–200 CE.
From India it was introduced into throm India it was introduced into the Persian courts where it became part of the education of the Persian nobility.
But its spread would not end there. The game would later be taken up by the Muslim world after the Islamic conquest of Persia.
By the 9th century it would spread to Russia and Western Europe and from there begin to spread to other parts of the world, while in the process becoming what is today the Modern Chess.
I hope this post on the origin of chess is informative enough?
Anyways thanks for glancing through.
