Who is Chadwick Boseman?

Chadwick Boseman Is No More

  • Chadwick Boseman died of Colon Cancer on 28 August 2020. After battling with the disease for four years.

The hero of the Black Panther movie has gone home. He is no longer with us and the pain is real. And the shock is felt all over the world because he was a Black man that made a movie that made many black people proud.

But it is not just black people that miss him or loved him. He played a hero that was different from the others. A fresh breath and so, he was accepted across the many divides that make up this crazy world.

One can only imagine the pain felt across the world today as news of his sudden demise spreads.

I woke up this morning to the caption Chadwick Boseman Is Dead and i had to replicate that content on this blog so others can be informed and quickly convey their condolences to his grieving family.

He will always be remembered as the gentle soul that brought Black panther to life. There are many good black actors out there but only Chadwick could have portrayed T’Challa the way he did.

This is a painful loss.

The Black panther movie was beautiful and as a black male in Nigeria who grew up on cartoons and comic super heroes it was super exciting to see a Black Super hero that was so unique and culturally tied to the continent.

But it was outside of the movies that i was able to see the true him and fall in love with Chadwick Boseman. The energy that exuded from him was so magnetic that immediately it became clear that he would go places.

But death said NO!

He was a beautiful soul who understood the importance of giving back to the community.

A fact that was expressed when he went back to his community to buy 312 underprivileged children tickets to see “Black Panther”.

According to the theatre manager, a total of 460 of Boseman’s family and friends saw the film at the theater on opening night.1

This video showed me the humble and gentle side of the actor. He feared God or at least showed the world that he was not afraid to display his connection to the most HIGH!

And now he is up above, free from this hate filled world.

Who Is Chadwick Boseman?

He was born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina on November 29, 1976.

His parents Carolyn and Leroy Boseman were ordinary African Americans. His mother was a nurse and his father worked at a textile factory, while also managing an upholstery business. 2

Boseman graduated from T. L. Hanna High School in 1995. And in his junior year, he wrote his first play, Crossroads, which was staged at the school after a classmate was shot and killed

Boseman attended college at Howard University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing.

At the start of his career he lived in Brooklyn, while working as a drama instructor in the Schomburg Junior Scholars Program, housed at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, New York.

But would later move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in 2008.

His Experience With Racism

In the MR PORTER article, Boseman said, “It’s not hard to find in South Carolina. Going to high school, I’d see Confederate flags on trucks. I know what it’s like to be a kid at an ice-cream shop when some little white kid calls you ‘n—–,’ but your parents tell you to calm down because they know it could blow up. We even had trucks try to run us off the road.”

“Let me give you an example. When I was shooting ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in Atlanta, I used to drive back on off-days to go see my family in Anderson. It’s about two hours. And I would see the Klan holding rallies in a Walmart car park. So, it’s like we’re going forwards and backwards at the same time. People don’t want to experience change, they just want to wake up and it’s different. But that — shooting ‘Civil War’ as Black Panther and then driving past the Klan — that’s what change feels like.”

He Was A Christian

From the video i posted above. It was clear that the actor was passionate about his relationship with God through his religion. And he was never ashamed of portraying this fact.

“Even though he plays these different people, I still see the person I knew as a child,” Pastor Neely said. “When I see him, it’s almost like seeing my own child, he’s still Chad.” said the pastor who baptized him.

“He’s always been a focused guy, he knew what he wanted and he was going after it,” Neely said.

“He did a lot of positive things within the church and within the community. With him singing in the choir, with him working the youth group, he always was doing something, always helping out, always serving. That was his personality.”

“I just seen him mature, and blossom into a man. And he’s doing an excellent job.” 3

It is painful to see a fine brother like Chadwick Boseman kiss the dust and bid us all a sudden farewell that we are not ready acknowledge but God knows better.

His Career

He would be remembered for that various real-life historical figures he portrayed on TV.

Such as Jackie Robinson in 42 (2013), James Brown in Get on Up (2014), and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall (2017).

He became more famous when he played the superhero Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019) & Black Panther (2018).

Boseman’s other film roles included 21 Bridges (2019) and Da 5 Bloods (2020).

He was such a fine actor!

He Was Married

He lived a private life and his romance was deliberately concealed from the public. A choice i strongly believe should be employed by celebrities who want their marriages to last.

But he was married to Taylor Simone Ledward. A marriage of secrecy. And she was with him through the diagnosis and ordeal that came after.

Chadwick had asked Taylor to marry him in October last year and the pair are believed to have said their vows in a private ceremony before the actor’s cancer advanced. 4

Taylor is a singer and a graduate of California State Polytechnic University Pomona, who graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Industry Studies.

During her time at the university she was the lead singer of the school’s jazz band.

It’s now a known fact that Chadwick was tragically diagnosed with colon cancer just one year into their relationship.

He would continue the fight against colon cancer for the next four years with Taylor by his side.

A super woman! We pray she gathers the strength to hold herself together in this period of grief.

His Death

He was diagnosed with stage 3 Colon cancer in 2016. He battled the disease until his spirit could no longer hold on. He died August 28 2020 in his home. Sharing his last moments with his family.

According to the family:
