Flying Eagles Edge Saudi Arabia 3–2 in Stoppage –Time Thriller

The Nigeria’s Flying Eagles continue their 2025 U20 World Cup campaign with a dramatic 3–2 win over Saudi Arabia, secured by captain Daniel Bameyi’s decisive penalty in added time.

Nigeria started brightly and went ahead in the 11th minute. Nasiru Salihu met a precise cross from Sani Suleiman and powered a header beyond the Saudi goalkeeper to give the Flying Eagles an early lead. They maintained pressure and created several chances but were unable to add a second goal.

Saudi Arabia responded in the 21st minute when Amar Al Yuhaybi capitalized on a loose ball in the box to equalize. The goal shifted momentum briefly, allowing the Saudis to settle into the match and test Nigeria’s midfield.

The Flying Eagles regained control before the break. In the 38th minute, a well-rehearsed set piece found Amos Ochoche in space, and he finished neatly to restore Nigeria’s lead at 2–1 going into halftime.

The second half produced more drama. Just five minutes after the restart, Talal Haji took advantage of a defensive lapse to level the score again at 2–2.

Both teams created chances as the match became increasingly tense, with the woodwork and missed opportunities keeping the scoreline unchanged.

In stoppage time, Nigeria were awarded a penalty after sustained pressure in the box. Captain Daniel Bameyi stepped up and converted confidently in the 94th minute, sealing a thrilling 3–2 victory.

The late win sparked jubilant celebrations and gave the Flying Eagles a crucial three points to begin their tournament campaign.
